Norman Thatcher's New Orleans Band

This is Norman's longest running band first formed in 1996 when he moved to South Wales. At that time he had been leader of the Ken Colyer Trust band for 10 years but was beginning to become disillusioned with its musical content. He decided that an authentic New Orleans style band was needed and started gathering a number of like-minded musicians, who were able to play in the idiom. It took a number of years for Norman to settle down with the right musicians and in the early years of the band there were several personnel changes.
This band ranges from a quartet to a full seven piece band and is in constant demand at major festivals and jazz clubs throughout the country.

New Orleans Hula

New Orleans Hula create an original sound with their unusual combination of instruments. They play a blend of old style jazz mixed with popular dance band tunes from the 1920's and 30's. Their unique instrumentation and versatility allows them to add a touch of Hawaiian charm.
The members of New Orleans Hula have played together for many years with the 5 musicians playing a total of 12 instruments. The warmth and camaraderie they feel for each other is reflected in the music they play.

Spirit of Colyer

"The Spirit of Colyer comprises seven fine musicians, but owes it's success and very existence to Norman. Close your eyes and you can hear him conjure up the magic of the Guvnor at his best - the clear bell-like tone, often using the derby hat mute, the ability to inspire a band in so many ways ranging from discreetly nudging along the ensemble to triumphantly leading from the front, and above all the sheer, unflinching integrity of the music."
